To mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Malaysia, from December 13 to 14, our institute was invited to participate in the M Summit World Esports Summit in Malaysia. The summit gathered over 300 industry business leaders, experienced professionals, and experts from around the globe to discuss the ecological development and cultural innovation trends of the global esports industry.
Representing the Yangtze River Delta Smart Oasis-NetDragon Esports International Education R&D Center of Zhejiang University (referred to as the Esports Joint R&D Center), Vice Dean Zhao Yupei signed a strategic partnership agreement with Shanghai Moonton Technology Co., Ltd.. The two parties will conduct in-depth collaboration under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative, focusing on the integration of esports in education, research, and industry. The collaboration will prioritize international talent cultivation, technological innovation, and high-quality development in esports at global, regional, and localized levels. The event garnered media coverage from 73 domestic and international outlets, including 46 foreign media organizations from Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia, and platforms like GamingonPhone.
As part of the collaboration, Zhao Yupei donated esports-related textbooks and academic publications to Moonton Technology, including titles published by Zhejiang University Press and Social Sciences Academic Press: Professional Cognition and Talent Development in Esports, Introduction to China's Esports Industry and Culture, The Cultural Cycle of Esports in China, and Esports Research: Perspectives, Visions, and Case Studies. These academic contributions aim to support international talent training in esports and provide a solid knowledge foundation for the industry's development. This gesture also reflects the importance both parties place on the collaboration, laying a firm foundation for future cooperation in the esports field.
At the M Summit World Esports Summit, Zhao Yupei hosted a roundtable forum and invited three distinguished female professionals as panelists: Caitlin Kang, Senior Director of Business Operations for the Asia-Pacific and Japan region at ESL FACEIT Group; Ana Karakolevska, Chief Marketing Officer of the International Esports Federation; and Aeterna, a renowned commentator for MPL tournaments. The panel discussed the theme of Women’s Power and Digital Equality in Esports, providing valuable insights into promoting esports in the Olympics and fostering diversity in the industry.
On December 14, to strengthen diplomatic friendship and esports exchanges between China and Malaysia, an exciting MLBB (Mobile Legends: Bang Bang) China-Malaysia Esports Friendly Match took place. Teams included TLG Esports Club from China, Team Rey from Malaysia, and a team representing Petronas, Malaysia's national petroleum corporation.
