Hunan has long been recognized as a major hub for media in China. In recent years, Changsha, its capital and the country’s first City of Media Arts under UNESCO, has become a magnet for outstanding talents. Recently, a delegation from our college, led by Party Secretary Wang Qingwen, visited Changsha to conduct research on topics such as content innovation, international communication, social responsibility, and technological applications. The visit aimed to learn from Hunan’s advanced practices in journalism and communication education as well as its cultural and creative industries, while fostering cultural exchange and collaboration between the college and local institutions.
Visit to the School of Journalism and Communication, Hunan University
The delegation first visited the School of Journalism and Communication at Hunan University, where they were welcomed by Party Secretary Zhang Kun and Vice Dean Deng Xiangyang. Both sides engaged in in-depth discussions on topics such as discipline development and international exchange, and explored interdisciplinary knowledge and the cultivation of global competitiveness.
Since its establishment in 2001, the School of Journalism and Communication at Hunan University has adapted to trends in technological change, industry development, and the demands of new liberal arts education. Building on the university’s rich cultural heritage, the school has pursued an education philosophy centered on “solid foundations, practical skills, open integration, and excellence.” It has established a comprehensive talent development system spanning undergraduate, master’s, doctoral, and postdoctoral education, creating a distinctive training base for applied and interdisciplinary excellence in journalism and communication.
In the future, the two schools plan to strengthen exchanges in journalism and communication theories and practices by organizing academic seminars and workshops. They also aim to jointly apply for research projects to drive interdisciplinary collaboration.
Visit to the School of Journalism and Communication, Hunan Normal University
The delegation then visited the School of Journalism and Communication at Hunan Normal University, where they were received by Party Secretary Li Yongbo, Senior Organizer Wang Yun, and Vice Dean Wang Haigang. Both sides exchanged insights on talent cultivation, key disciplines, and Party-building initiatives, reaching multiple points of consensus.
Hunan Normal University’s journalism and communication discipline is a nationally recognized field and a key component of its world-class Language and Culture academic cluster. After years of development, the school has established distinct research directions, including intelligent communication, international communication, advertising and media economics, and publishing studies. It has achieved notable results in teaching reforms, such as its experimental all-media journalism program and professional writing training. Its practical teaching model integrates course-based practice, project-based practice, competition-based practice, and social practice. The school has also established professional internship bases with multiple organizations and has hosted the Tomorrow’s Media Stars competition for 12 consecutive years.
The two schools plan to share teaching resources and research facilities to provide better learning and research conditions for faculty and students. They also aim to collaborate on social service projects, leveraging the influence of local media and cultural industries.
Visit to Malanshan Video Cultural and Creative Park
The delegation visited the Malanshan Video Cultural and Creative Park, a hub for numerous cultural and creative enterprises and a fertile ground for innovation and practice. They learned about successful cases of internship collaboration within the park’s human resources framework and experienced cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence, virtual space interaction, and video supercomputing in the exhibition hall.
Visit to Mango TV Headquarters
At Mango TV’s headquarters, the delegation held discussions with relevant departments on content creation, international communication, and student internships and employment. Both parties expressed interest in leveraging Mango TV’s media platform to co-develop high-quality original content, enhancing the college’s content creation capabilities. Additionally, the collaboration aims to provide students with internships and employment opportunities to improve their professional skills and industry awareness through hands-on experience.
This visit highlighted the mutual respect and exchange of ideas between different regional cultures while capturing the pulse of cultural innovation and contemporary development. The delegation witnessed the vibrant intersection of media and culture and gained valuable insights into the dynamic growth of the media industry. It is hoped that the cultural exchange and cooperation between Zhejiang and Hunan will flow continuously, like the waters of the Xiang River, painting a vivid picture of media integration and progress.
