CMIC Students Shares Overseas Experiences

HANGZHOU—On May 10, the College of Media and International Culture hosted an event for students to share about their experiences studying abroad and overseas exchange programs.

 


To commence, Professor Hong Yu, the associate dean of the CMIC delivered an opening speech in which she stressed that the era of globalization has urged people to proactively seek opportunities to communicate and interact with the world.



 Afterwards, Jiang Panpan from the international department summarized works carried out by her department and gave a panoramic view on the college’s foreign exchange and study abroad programs.



Five students were given different topics to share about their exchange experiences abroad. The first student was Yan Wei, who has joined several overseas exchange programs including one with a national scholarship. She focused on explaining the application process and sharing about her life abroad. The second speaker was Zhang Yuwei. Zhang told the audience about the reason she participated in exchange programs and her take on the experience. Zhang Ouning who is enrolled at UCLA was the third to speak. He gave insight into taking the TOEFL and choosing the right education agency. Apart from UCLA, he was also admitted to Johns Hopkins University, USC, and NYU. The fourth speaker, Song Wenhui, was enrolled at a master’s program at LSE amid the pandemic. She shared about the hybrid learning system of online and offline teaching adopted by LSE and how the environment broadened her horizons. Qi Xin was the last student speaker at the event. Qi now works at Garena Shanghai as a game designer after graduating from ZJU and CUHK. Qi encouraged fellow students to start preparing early for potential job opportunities and to stay positive during the process in spite of failures.

 


The event concluded in a Q&A session and a brief closing speech by Jiang Panpan. Jiang expressed her appreciation for the information shared by the students and wished the best for students who hope to join an exchange program in the future.
