HANGZHOU—The Internet Research in Global Transition seminar was held on November 14. The program was a joint effort by the College of Media and International Culture (CMIC) of Zhejiang University and the Consortium of Internet and Society at the Communication University of Zhejiang.

The day commenced with a welcome speech from Professor Lu Wei, the dean of the CMIC, in which he addressed that the internet has posed a big challenge to the economy, our higher education system, and people’s lives. Both industry and academia are observing the growing importance of scholars from the communication sector to the construction of discipline and public engagement.

During the keynote speeches, scholars from Carleton University, Hong Kong Baptist University, the University of Queensland, and Fudan University expressed their views on several issues including social and technological transformation, geopolitical reconstruction, institutional response, and normative debate in the “Post-American Era”.

The seminar also offered a platform for scholars from China, the US, the UK, India, Canada, and Australia to discuss and share their findings on Geopolitics and Social-technical Process, Cyberwar Topologies: In Struggle of a Post-American Internet, Norm and Governance.

The highlight of the seminar was the roundtable discussion centered on Internet in the Post-American Era: Technology, Governance, and Geopolitics. The discussion was partaken of by distinguished scholars which included Chengyu Xiong and Baoguo Cui from Tsinghua University, Xingdong Fang from the Consortium of Internet and Society at the Communication University of Zhejiang, Yi Shen from Fudan University, Yu Hong and Fei Wu from Zhejiang University, and Yuxiao Li from the Consortium of Cyberspace.

To conclude the seminar, Professor Yu Hong and Professor Fei Wu delivered their closing speeches. They expressed appreciation to scholars who shared their enlightening and insightful research and once again emphasized the significance of scholars on the future development of a quality cyberspace.
