HANGZHOU—On October 16 and 17, the College of Media and International Culture (CMIC) of Zhejiang University and the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information (WKWSCI) of Nanyang Technological University (NTU) jointly organized the 2020 PhD Symposium online. The symposium was themed “Media and Communication” in which doctoral students from both universities discussed the dissemination of the latest topics from different academic perspectives.
During the opening ceremony on the 16th, Professor May Lwin, the chair of WKWSCI delivered a speech and expressed her heart-felt appreciation to organizers from both universities for their joint efforts in holding the symposium. The speech was then followed by lectures conducted by Professor Edson Tandoc Jr. and Professor Richard Seyler Ling. The lectures were titled “Mixing Methods, Mixing Perspectives” and “Social Science Research in the Age of Machine Learning” respectively.
The second day of the symposium was commenced with a seminar given by Professor Jung Younbo from NTU titled “A Path to Academic: My Story, Research and Trends”.
Afterward, several doctoral students from ZJU and NTU carried out presentations centering on their academic research, which later received comments from Assistant Professor Chen Lou and Assistant Professor Hye Kyung Kim.
Lastly, Professor Wei Lu, the dean of the CMIC gave a closing speech that marked the conclusion of the PhD Symposium.
